Winners and losers from All-Star Weekend

Lakers coach Phil Jackson said Tuesday that his teams have historically come out of the All-Star break with a renewed focus and energy because they can see the light at the end of the tunnel and the remaining games on the schedule become "like a college season."

Finally, there's something in the NBA experience that the rookie class can relate to. They've spent the first three-and-a-half months getting adjusted to everything from traveling on cross-country chartered planes to being called for traveling in games for using the same crossover dribble that stymied opponents back in school.

Before we turn our Rookie Rankings focus to the second half of the season, let's look back at the weekend in Phoenix that was, where a handful of first-year players experienced different fates.

Chandler fails physical, rejoins Hornets

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma City Thunder rescinded their trade with the New Orleans, sending center Tyson Chandler back to the Hornets.

Chandler failed a physical Wednesday, and the Thunder backed out of the deal that sent Chris Wilcox, Joe Smith and second-round pick DeVon Hardin to New Orleans.

No specific reason was given as to why Chandler didn't pass the physical, but he missed the last 12 games before the All-Star break because of a sprained left ankle.

"We were pleased to add Tyson to the Thunder roster," general manager Sam Presti said. "During the course of the physical examination and outside consultations some questions arose that gave us cause for concern. We felt that this course of action was the best for our organization."

McGrady out for season, will have microfracture surgery

HOUSTON (AP) -- Houston Rockets star Tracy McGrady will have surgery on his left knee and miss the rest of the season.

The star forward said on his Web site Wednesday that the pain has been persistent and he will have microfracture surgery. He's confident he'll return next season.

McGrady is Houston's third-leading scorer. He had arthroscopic surgery in May and has missed 18 games this season because of his sore knee. He also missed one game with a sprained ankle. He said before the All-Star break he wanted to consult with doctors before deciding on the best course of treatment on his knee.

ESPN.com first reported that McGrady was out for the season after the Rockets beat the Nets on Tuesday night.

Rockets spokesman Nelson Luis said McGrady met with a doctor in New York on Tuesday and had another out-of-state doctor's appointment scheduled Wednesday. McGrady said he would have the surgery "immediately."
